Weekend Recap + new Vocal Dance Mix

Kind of cheating, because I am actually going to recap the past two weeks, as they were fairly busy.

Going back to Thursday, June 24th – I played a set of tech house @ Groove Suite for House Call. The other DJs were Chris Firenze and Mage2k. Hadn’t heard Mage2k before – he played a great set of house that had good energy and nice variety to the tracks. Chris Firenze played a good set of tech house that included some of his own production work. Always fun playing at Groove Suite. Had the chance to hang with Tervor Vichas after my set who is great to talk to.

On Saturday, June 26th, I DJ-ed the Summerween Party @ The Whiskey Bar. Summerween is Halloween in the summertime, so you can be as creative and dress up however you would like. There were tons of fun costumes and the hosts were dressed as devils. I dressed as a referee and played a set of house, remixes and dance.

On Friday, July 2nd, I played my set on KBOO and then headed over to Rotture to play the closing set for the Ransom party.

I will be playing a House music set for House Call @ Groove Suite. Other DJs are Chris Firenze and Mage2k. The event goes from 10pm – close. My set will be on the techy side of the house spectrum. Weekend Recap

I had two shows Friday night – my radio show on KBOO and a party called Ransom.

On the KBOO show I was joined by Stephen Quirke who hosts the Eclectro Radio show on Proton Radio. He played for about an hour and 15 minutes, so I had a brief 45 minute set of downtempo / house / tech.

[event review] Above & Beyond at The Whiskey Bar 5.20.2010

On Thursday, May 20th – Red Cube and The Whiskey Bar hosted Above & Beyond in Portland, OR. They played an amazing set of hard hitting trance. I opened the show with a set of techy / proggy / tribal beats from 9pm – 11pm, follow by Gabriel Driscoll who also played a great set of proggy / tribal music.

The club got packed early and stayed busy until the lights came on around 2:40am. Great party for a Thursday night! The sound system at The Whiskey Bar is really dialed in, big booming bass and very clean mid and high frequencies. The lighting is also great, and they had visuals on the tv screens and projected behind the DJs on stage.

Ransom is a party being held at Rotture – 315 SE 3rd Ave in Portland. I will be playing an extended set of house / tech / tribal beats. Other DJs are Stormy and Darkcloud. This is a party for all the gay men – add to the fun and dress up – jocks / uniforms / leather / etc.

Red Dress Party 2010 Recap!

The 2010 edition of the Red Dress Party has come and gone. There is so much anticipation and excitement that builds for this party every year, that after it is over, I have a hard time thinking I can wait a whole year to do it again!

This year’s party was held at the Bison Building in NE Portland and had a large room inside the warehouse where DJ Harmonix was playing music and I was outside in a large tent playing a 7 hour set of vocal house and dance music. The party started at 7pm for those with VIP tickets and included a live performance from Tahoe Jackson, great drinks and lots of yummy food. The party then officially kicked off at 9pm and the place was quickly packed.

Every year there is a lot of creativity put into people’s dresses and this year was no different. I saw a dress made of red playing cards, a dress made of red “caution” tape and a dress that was nothing more than red body paint!

I had so much fun DJ-ing again this year and can’t wait until Red Dress 2011! Below is a video clip, some pictures and links to additional reviews and pictures of the party.
